Accidents when you're out and about

Shops, Supermarkets, Gyms, Schools, Restaurants, Retail outlets and offices all have a duty of care to customers and as soon as you enter their premises they have a responsibility for your well-being.

Understaffed premises and inadequate cleaning policies can put shoppers at risk of injury, as can staff members who have not been properly trained.

So if you have had a slip and fall accident that wasn’t your fault, you may be eligible to make a personal injury compensation claim.

We are able to claim compensation from a slip and trip injury sustained slipping on spilt food or a discarded wrapper, falling over obstacles left on the floor, being hit by goods falling from the shelves and lots more

Even if you think your accident was trivial, if you have suffered an injury that wasn’t your fault you can make a claim against the responsible party.

Following an accident in a shop or other building to which the public have access you need to

  • Seek medical treatment. Once you have received medical advice / treatment you need to take the following steps immediately.
  • Report the accident as soon as possible afterwards to a supervisor or manager.
  • Make sure that the accident is accurately recorded in the premises accident report book.
  • If you can, take photographs of the place of the accident and whatever it was that caused your accident.
  • Prepare a detailed sketch plan of the incident. This should clearly show the location of the accident, the defect and any warning signs present. Also this should show any other relevant information such as location of any witnesses.
  • Obtain contact details for any witnesses to the accident.
  • Keep a list of all expenses which you incur and hold onto any receipts.
