Why has my Critical illness insurance claim been rejected? / Why have I only been offered partial payment of my Critical illness insurance claim?
The most common reason for a Critical Health Insurance claim being unsuccessful is due to non-disclosure. Non-disclosure applies to the information you provide at the outset of your policy. It is this information that is used to determine the risk that you pose to the insurer, and your premium will reflect this level of risk. Essentially the insurers are saying that you should have disclosed certain medical or lifestyle information when you applied for the policy.
This can be the insurers asserting that the condition you have is not severe enough to meet the policy definition of the covered critical illness. It can also be that the critical illness is due to an excluded cause, some examples of common exclusions are self-inflicted injuries, failure to meet reasonable doctor’s advice, or critical illness that is due to drug or alcohol abuse.
When your critical illness insurance claim is declined or refused it is essential that your claim is investigated thoroughly.
It’s no fun dealing with insurers and certainly not in these trying circumstances. If you choose Recovery Assist Solicitors, we will argue your case robustly, liaise directly with your insurer and where necessary take your claim to the Financial Ombudsman.
